MADE FOR MORE

KATRINA DE Roo

Loved and Called

Secondary teacher and Consecrated Virgin

“I know who Katrina is, and I know Katrina is loved.”

Katrina de Roo's first response to the Made for More Retreat was not enthusiasm. She was tired, worn down and ready to say no. Yet beneath that reluctance was a question she could not dismiss: who was Katrina?

Something within her said yes. Looking back, Katrina recognizes that this decision became a turning point. Had she not gone, she believes she would have missed a profound experience of healing, a renewed awareness of God's love and the path towards the vocation she now lives.

Katrina attended Made for More for the first time two years before this interview. At that stage, she sensed that God might be calling her to a particular vocation, but she remained uncertain. During and after the retreat, that call became part of a deeper process of discernment. She later returned to continue listening to what God was asking of her.

The healing dimension of the retreat became especially significant. Katrina had carried a wound that she assumed would always remain. It was part of her life, it hurt, and she did not expect anything to change. She did not arrive at the retreat consciously focused upon that wound, nor did she expect God to address it.

During the time of healing, however, Katrina sensed God speaking into that place. The change was not forceful or dramatic. It began quietly and continued over time. When she returned to the retreat, she could look back and recognize how deeply God had already been working.

This helped Katrina appreciate the gentleness of divine healing. God may be healing a wound so gradually that we do not immediately notice. Only later do we return to a painful memory and realize, with surprise, that it no longer hurts in the same way. What once seemed permanent has lost its power.

Made for More also reminded Katrina of two truths that reshaped her life: she is loved by God, and she is here for a purpose. Those truths were not abstract statements. They became a foundation for discernment, identity and mission.

As a secondary teacher, Katrina understands the importance of practical learning.

She appreciated that the retreat offers both personal encounter and concrete steps. There is quiet time with God, space for healing and material that participants can carry into their ordinary lives. The suggestions feel achievable rather than overwhelming. Someone asking, “What do I do, Lord?” is not left with inspiration alone, but receives simple ways of beginning.

Her initial no could have left her in the same place of hurt and uncertainty. Her yes opened a path towards healing, vocation and a clearer sense of self. That discernment eventually led Katrina to her vocation as a consecrated virgin.

Her invitation to others is uncomplicated: just come. The retreat is gentle and non-confrontational. It offers space simply to be—to remember how deeply we are loved and to receive practical help for the journey ahead.

Katrina came wanting to know who she was. She left able to say: “I know who Katrina is, and I know Katrina is loved.”
