CHRIST-LIKE LISTENING

What changes when we stop preparing our answer and begin listening with the attentive presence of Christ?

These stories come from people with different lives, professions and experiences. Each discovered that Christ-Like Listening is more than a communication technique. It is a way of becoming present to another person, trusting the Holy Spirit and helping someone recognize how God is already at work within their life.

Watch their stories. Hear what they discovered. Explore how listening can renew relationships, strengthen Christian community and help us accompany one another with greater faith, maturity and love.

PATRICIA MARIE COSGROVE

Seen, Heard and Loved

Professional therapist and social worker

Patricia brought a lifetime of professional counselling and Christian ministry to Christ-Like Listening. Yet she discovered something more: a way of listening in which Jesus remains at the centre and the other person is allowed to feel truly seen, heard, understood and appreciated. She described the program as one of her most life-giving experiences and believed it could deepen every relationship. Patricia's testimony is now shared with gratitude in honour of the faith, joy and loving presence she carried throughout her life

SHERRY FLEMMING

A Vessel of Christ's Love and Presence

Social worker and pro-life ministry leader

For Sherry, Christ-Like Listening begins by becoming attuned to God. From that place, she can enter an encounter not relying only on her own competence, but allowing the love and presence of Jesus to work through her. Her experience also taught her that listening must be practised. Small-group follow-up gave her accountability, strengthened the skills she had learned and offered a dependable map for accompanying people, especially when they are facing painful or difficult situations.

MALCOLM A. C. PINTO

Listening With the Whole Self

Structural engineer and firm owner

Malcolm discovered that genuine listening involves much more than hearing words. It calls for the whole person: attention, emotion, observation, patience and openness to the Holy Spirit. He began applying Christ-Like Listening within his marriage, his family and his engineering firm. By slowing down, pausing and reflecting before responding, he found that ordinary workplace conversations became more human and meaningful. For Malcolm, the goal is not to become an expert, but to become a presence.

DIANE MARIE CAREY

From the Head to the Heart

Actor, singer, producer and director

Diane already believed that God dwells in every person. Christ-Like Listening helped that belief move from an idea in her mind to a lived awareness in her heart. By becoming still and preparing herself to listen, she began to recognize and encounter God in the person before her. The maps, teaching and practice gave her hope for her closest relationships and opened a wider vision of how deeper listening could bring greater peace, light and connection to the Church.

KEN NAUSS

Seeing Scripture With New Eyes

President, MathResources Inc. — Educational Technology

Ken found in Christ-Like Listening the kind of learning he wished he had received years earlier. The seminar led him back to Scripture and invited him to examine how Jesus encountered, heard and responded to people. Even after a lifetime of Christian faith, he discovered new insight into his own conversations and relationships. What particularly impressed him was the harmony between Christ's way of meeting people and what modern cognitive science continues to reveal about human attention and connection.

TALITHA LEMOINE

Trusting the Spirit in the Person Before Us

Consecrated virgin and Catholic missionary

Talitha was struck by the formation's clear focus on a living relationship with Jesus and its reminder that the Holy Spirit dwells within each person. Listening therefore becomes an act of trust: trust that God is present in the listener and already guiding the person being accompanied. She also valued that the seminar did not offer teaching alone. Throughout the experience, participants were repeatedly given opportunities to encounter God personally while learning how to become more attentive to others.

NANCY ROBINSON VILLARROEL

Faith That Becomes a Practical Skill

Psychologist

Nancy had previously experienced a retreat that brought her closer to God and, in a particular way, closer to Jesus. Christ-Like Listening attracted her because it went further by joining spiritual growth with practical skill-building. The seminar offered tools that could help her accompany other people while also deepening her own life. What initially appeared to be a demanding schedule became a gradual and varied experience of teaching, reflection, music, reinforcement and meaningful exchange with the other participants.

LEARN TO BECOME A PRESENCE
